SUSSI & CHUMA & ZAMBEZI KULEFU CAMP & CHICHELE PRESIDENTIAL LODGE

DAY 1

On arrival in Livingstone you will be met by a representative of Sussi & Chuma Lodge and transferred by air-conditioned minibus to the lodge which takes about 30 minutes. The drive takes you through the historic frontier town of Livingstone into the Mosi oa Tunya National Park – Smoke that Thunders – which refers to the majestic Victoria Falls.

On arrival at the lodge you will be shown to your tree house where you will relax and freshen up. The Tree Houses are set in a riverine forest on the banks of the Zambezi, the ideal place to acclimatize to the pace of Africa.

This afternoon, enjoy one of many activities offered at Sussi & Chuma, e.g. a visit to Victoria Falls, boating on the Zambezi, a historical tour of Livingstone including the museum, a visit to a local village or an evening game drive, the choice is yours.

Return to the lodge in the early evening in time for a hearty, well deserved dinner.


DAY 2

Early morning wake up call with fresh tea/coffee and biscuits served in your room followed by a morning activity. Expert guides will take you to explore the Falls or introduce you to local villagers nearby where you can learn about the varied history and culture of this fascinating area of Zambia. You have a full day to explore every aspect of this World Heritage site.

Livingstone is renowned as the Adventure capital of Africa, the choice of activities is

immense, bungi-jumping, white-water rafting, elephant rides, helicopter and micro-light flights, these can be booked during your stay. A morning or early evening visit to Victoria Falls is an absolute must, discovered by David Livingstone and named for his Queen, the Falls are magnificent year round – High water (Jan – May) sees high spray Low water (Jun – Dec) allows great views of the rock formations and the opportunity to book a very special experience to visit Livingstone Island in the centre of the Falls.

Return to camp after your morning activity for a hearty brunch. Spend the afternoon at your leisure enjoying the facilities on offer. Your tree house at Sussi & Chuma is built on stilts and the rooms are connected by raised walkways – allowing game to pass underneath to access the river, relax on your private deck, or by the river side pool, with the sound of snorting hippos in the background.

Mid-afternoon high tea will be served prior to your next activity.

Return to camp for dinner and overnight.


DAY 3

This morning you transfer to Livingstone Airport for your flight to Lower Zambezi. On arrival at Kulefu Airstrip (weather conditions permitting) a representative of Zambezi Kulefu Camp will meet you and transfer you to the lodge.

Descending steps down the river bank you will board a boat for the 20 minute journey upstream to camp. Overlooking one of the channels of the legendary Zambezi River, Zambezi Kulefu Camp is “far from the maddening crowds”.

Lower Zambezi is one of the most beautiful National Parks in Africa and the variety of ways to explore unrivalled, on foot, by vehicle or on the river by boat or canoe, whatever your choice the experience will touch the soul.

On arrival at the Lodge you will have time to relax and refresh before exploring this legendary National Park.


DAY 4 & 5

An early morning call from your room steward, with tea or coffee, will be the dawn of your safari day. Following a light breakfast of fruit, cereal and toast you head off to explore this magnificent park – bordered by the escarpment of the Great Rift Valley this floodplain offers a diverse range of habitats which supports a myriad of game and birdlife. One of the most amazing ways to explore the beautiful channels of the Zambezi is by canoe – peacefully paddling downstream – watching game at the waters edge, undisturbed, is an experience not to be missed. Try fishing for the ultimate game fish - Tiger Fish, explore the area on day and night game drives or walking with your expert guide and scout otherwise simply relax with a book on your individual deck and watch the wildlife pass by. Three full days allow you time to discover this stunning park at your own pace.


DAY 6

This morning you will leave Zambezi Kulefu Camp by boat for your journey downstream to Kulefu Airstrip, where you will take a flight to Mfuwe. On arrival in Mfuwe a representative from Chichele Presidential Lodge will meet you and transfer you to the lodge.

The drive from Mfuwe Airport passes through local villages and the South Luangwa National Park, this will take about 2 hours - depending how much game you spot along the way.

Chichele Presidential Lodge in all it’s colonial splendour sits on top of a hill with 360 degree views of the surrounding plains. Built by the first President of Zambia Mr Kenneth Kaunda, Chichele holds a very special place in the history of Zambia. Wide verandah’s soothing fountains, a pool and treatment room are some of the facilities on offer. Each of the 10 rooms has air conditioning, mini bar, bath, shower and individual verandah.

On arrival at the Lodge you will have time to relax and refresh before exploring this legendary National Park, the variety of game here is world renowned, walking and exploring on night drives, have made this Park a must on any safari in Zambia.

Return to camp for a scrumptious dinner before retiring to bed.


DAY 7 & 8

An early morning call from your room steward, with tea or coffee, will be the dawn of your safari day. Following a light breakfast of fruit, cereal and toast you head off to explore this magnificent park – bordered by striking hills and crossed by dry river beds, this park offers a diverse range of habitats which supports a myriad of game and birdlife. Explore on morning game drives or walks – South Luangwa is the home of walking safaris – nothing is more exciting than stalking elephant on foot or learning the intricate detail of the inter-dependence of the fauna & flora of the area.

After a hearty lunch and time spent enjoying the comforts of the lodge you take evening game drives which stay out after sundown, where you will search by spotlight with your guide for the elusive nocturnal species – South Luangwa is particularly famous for leopard sightings.

Return to camp for dinner and overnight.


DAY 9

This morning you will leave Chichele Presidential Lodge for your safari transfer to Mfuwe airport, where you will take a flight to Lusaka and connect to your onward International flight.

PLEASE NOTE: Luggage: When travelling in Zambia by light aircraft, the luggage limit is 12 kg’ s packed in a soft bag including hand luggage and photographic equipment.
